Duomo

One of my favourite views. How beautiful the Duomo is. I like it more each time I see it. Breathtaking. Unluckily the façade is covered in scaffolding until the end of 2007.

Italian Trains

Italian trains few and crowded. The penultimate in Europe.
What a nice headline to greet me last week. I knew trains were pretty bad here – a ‘sciopero’ (strike) nearly every week, lots if angry passengers (or is it customers these days?), dirty old trains etc etc. But I didn’t realise just how bad. I was only cheered up by the fact it said the worst country for trains in Europe was …wait for it… UK! That will be no surprise to most of you but Italians seem to think that the UK has a great train service (wonder why they thought that?). The article at least said that Italian trains are cheap – about a third of the price of the trains over in good old blighty.

Religion

I had heard that Jesus is big in Italy. This appears to be true.

Questura Success

The permit to stay was obtained. I am no longer scared of being hunted down by Berlusconi.
More to follow later this week...
