The Fencing World Championships - Turin
Turin is having quite a year. In February there were the Winter Olympics, in April the International Book Festival, a couple of months ago the Chess World Championships - and now it is hosting the Fencing World Championships (no, not to see who can put up a fence the quickest!)
On Saturday 30th September there was the opening ceremony, held in the main piazza. It was a beautiful event - everybody could enjoy it, not just those who buy tickets to watch opening ceremonies in stadiums. They should do it like this more often.
Below are a few photos captured by an excited onlooker.
By the way, does anyone know the collective term for Fencers?

Quick bit of internet research turned up 'A poke of fencers' on 2 sites. But sounds a bit silly!
Methinks someone is poking fun at you. Sounds like a load of rubbish to me! MD
I love your blog Mike, but it must be so hard living in Italy having experienced Rhyl and Prestatyn. You only seem to have a fraction of the sporting events, carnivals, beauty contests, architecture, and restaurants that North Wales has to offer.
How do you cope?
(Not at all jealous of you. Not really, not one little bit.
Ok.....
Maybe just a little.)
